This plant was absolutely amazing! Extremely vigorous (filling all 1200 square feet of my garden) very large healthy deep green leaves, thick main and side vines, all you ever want in a plant. However, this pumpkin grew ridiculously slow. For the majority of its life it never put on more than 5 pounds a day (when I normally like to hit 40 pounds a day). I was fertilizing every day at low doses at proper pH, burying all the vines top and bottom adding mycorrhizal fungi, nitrogen fixing bacteria, powdered molasses to feed the microbes, and even some basic granular fertilizer to really maximize the potential of the pumpkin. The pumpkin was also very slanted growing way over its blossom end. What’s even stranger is that it started cantalouping at DAP 30 despite shading it profusely which is definitely not normal. All this points to the fact that I think I just got a mutated bad seed. However, there have been several other growers who have had much more success with the 1412, so I think my instance was an anomaly so because of that I still think the 1412 has great capability but I think because it was harvested before it was fully matured only (45 days old) that the seeds inside it did not have time to fully develop and that’s why there is probably a greater percentage of mutated bad seeds amongst some great seeds. I just was unlucky to grow one of the bad ones.
